If you are reading this, you have internet, and if you have internet, you probably live in a first world country, and if you live in a first world country, you probably suffer from FWP every once in a while.
What is FWP, you ask?
Introducing..... First World Problems!
I'll admit it: I complain about first world problems all the time. I'm all in the moment, complaining about my life, and then my mom interrupts me to say, "First world problems!"
Sigh.
Anyways, here is a list I've made for you about some of the most common FWPs. Obviously there are TONS more, but I don't have time to list them all!
The Internet.
We've all been there: when you're supposed to be doing homework or something else productive on your computer. You hit a rough spot or are getting bored, so you tell yourself you'll go on Hyperbole and a Half (in my case) or somewhere else fun on the internet just for a few minutes. Two hours later, you are physically unable to click away and back to what you're supposed to be doing. STUPID INTERNET!
Watching TV.
Watching TV definitely has its issues. You sit down, get in the most comfortable position possible, and finally get the blankets and pillows surrounding you the way you want them. Suddenly you realize one of the following:
-The remote is on the other side of the room.
-You need food, like, now.
-You have to go to the bathroom really badly.
So you have to undo all the blankets, haul yourself off the couch, and take care of whatever business you have to before you can enjoy Downton Abbey. In my case, anyway.
Running out of toilet paper.
Of course, you never realize this until you're sitting there, miserable and unsure of what to do. Usually it ends up with you screaming your head off until someone hears you and brings you some.
School.
I have three tests in two days next week. I'm swamped with homework, and I work hard in school. It's not fun, but there are people out there who would do anything for an opportunity to go to school.
Chip bags.
There you are, stuffing your face with doritos, pretzels, pringles or who knows what else, and your hand gets stuck in the bag or other kind of container. Urgh.
Getting out of the shower.
You have two options: Stay in the hot shower, or enter the igloo that is your bathroom. Yeah, I'll stick with option #1.
Cell phones.
Since I don't have a smart phone, I don't really have this problem. I see people around me all the time who are complaining about autocorrect, certain things about the IOS7 update, cracking their screens, and needing a charger ASAP. Are you guys even hearing yourselves? You have a smart phone.
Eating too much.
It is not my fault that food tastes good. Therefore, it is not my fault when I eat so much that all I can do is lay on the ground and make dying whale noises.
Not knowing what to wear.
Boys just don't understand. Yes, you have a closet full of clothes, but you have nothing to wear! Nothing you have works! You can't really explain it, but I think pretty much every girl in the universe will agree with me on this. Either that or I'm really weird.

When these things happen to you, you just have to laugh at yourself and acknowledge that you are experiencing FWP. If you've hung out with me before, there's a good chance I've said it to you at one point or another. With first world problems, you have to put everything in perspective. So many people out there are in need of food, water and other basic necessities, and here you are complaining about your iPhone.
Just sayin'.
Click here for a list of some more hilariously relatable first world problems that I didn't talk about here. :)
Also, here is a link to a Youtube video about dealing with first world problems. Don't expect it to be serious.
Julia!!! This is hilarious!! :D
ReplyDeleteAll of this is so true, especially the part about the getting comfortable in front of the TV and being forced to get up. I hate that. Speaking of TV, I should probably get around to watching Downtown Abbey. Do you think I can start midseason or do I need to go back to the beginning?
ReplyDeleteI would personally start at the beginning because there are a lot of ongoing stories and drama, but I don't think it will be horrific if you start midseason. :)
DeleteThis is so funny and so relatable! I can totally connect with almost everything you wrote. I love how you did it in list format. Your writing's really smooth and funny!
